UM-DCWD nine captures Inday softball title

UM-DCWD nine captures Inday softball title

Ryan Sarabia played brilliantly in almost all stat sheets, scoring three runs including one homer, 4 RBIs and 3 hits to carry the UM-DCWD clouters past a veteran-laden Tadeco-Panabo City side, 8-4, winning the 7th Kadayawan Cup RRD-Inday Sara Fast Pitch Softball tournament over the weekend at the Mintal grounds.

The Maroon Sox cashed in on that splendid display of ball-hitting prowess by the 23-year old grandson of the late baseball patriarch Judge Sarabia to annex its second straight title and the P10,000 cash prize and trophy courtesy of Mayor Rdrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

Veteran Arnold Sarabia scored on a two-run double opening the onslaught for UM-DCWD in the lower first, driving home Diosdado Adan and Junie Sintos. Tadeco kept in stride 1-2 with Carmelo Bastida scoring on a throwing error to third after a base hit and a steal.

In the third, Tadeco equalized with a homer by Jake Banosa on a fielder’s choice but UM-DCWD quickly regained ground after playing coach Joaquin Sarabia drove in Ryan and Sintos with a double, to go up 4-2. Afer Bastida struck again for Tadeco on a double by Judel Omaliao in the lower fourth, Ryan blasted relief pitcher Eddie Manigos’ fast ball to center, then scored on an error-aided two-run homerun keeping UM-DCWD on top 6-3.

In the sixth, Roberto Antor’s double RBI scored Omaliao but that proved to be their last stand as UM scored two more through Adan who went home on a double RBI by Ryan who also scored his third run with a double by Sintos. Tadeco’s fortunes ended with a shutout in the seventh as the Maroons went on to celebrate the win.

In the battle at the mound, Sintos earned the win on a six-hit 4-run effort while reliever Manigos took the loss. Tadeco started with Toto Maturan but was relieved in the fourth.

“We are satisfied with our performance, and that effort was really what we needed to beat a tough team like Tadeco,” said UM coach Sarabia who also praised his nephew Ryan for an MVP-type performance. “Ryan played so well in the finals. He and Junie Sintos were our consistent players in the tournament.”

Earlier, Matina Boys salvaged third place with a 4-0 shutout of Digos City. The individual honors went to Sintos who won the MVP and best pitcher awards while Emeliano Rogue of Tadeco won the Homerun King plum. (pr)
